CBD vs. THC: Why Does Weed Get You High But CBD Doesn’t?

These days, it seems that everyone and their grandma is talking about CBD (cannabidiol) and its benefits. It’s no wonder the market’s supposed to reach a $22 billion valuation by the year 2022.

CBD has truly gone mainstream over the last few years.

What’s the big deal about CBD, though? Is it really as great as everyone says? And, is it better to consume than THC (tetrahydrocannabinol)?

Read on to learn everything you need to know about the difference between CBD vs. THC and find out which is better for you to use.

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. It does not have any mind-altering effects, unlike THC, and it has been shown to have a number of medicinal benefits.

CBD functions by increasing the availability of the body’s own naturally occurring cannabinoids. It also binds to other receptors in the body, such as the serotonin receptors, to provide a variety of medicinal benefits.

Many people use CBD to manage symptoms related to a variety of conditions, including chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and epilepsy. CBDfx states that it can also help minimize your risk of heart disease.

There are a number of different ways to consume CBD, including CBD oil, CBD vapes, and topical CBD products.

What is THC?

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is another well-known cannabinoid.

Unlike CBD, THC does alter your state of mind when you consume. THC functions by binding to the cannabinoid receptors in the brain and spinal cord.

Many people are under the impression that THC is dangerous or bad because of its mind-altering effects.

While these effects can be problematic for some people, they are also incredibly beneficial for others, especially those who may be dealing with depression or anxiety.

THC also provides other medicinal benefits. For example, it can help to relieve pain, reduce nausea, improve sleep quality, and even promotes brain cell growth (yes, the rumors about cannabis killing brain cells definitely are not true).

CBD vs. THC: Which is Best for You?

CBD and THC both have their benefits, so you definitely don’t have to limit yourself to just one or the other.

For those who do not want to experience mind-altering effects, such as children or the elderly, CBD-only or high-CBD products are a good option.

CBD-only products are also a viable solution for folks who live in states where cannabis has not been legalized since they can be purchased online.

If you live in a state where cannabis has been legalized, you may be able to benefit from consuming both CBD and THC.

These two cannabinoids work well separately, but they work better together and can enhance each other’s effects — this is known as the Entourage Effect.
